Queenie Dhody's store opening

Socialite and much in the news recently, Queenie Dhody (or should I now say Singh) opened her new jewelry store. Of course the whose who of the Mumbai society and Bollywood party goers were present.

MISSES

I think both the hostess Queenie and the guest Vidya missed the boat here. Queenie's dress is way too golden, from the dress to the eye shadow, bronzer and jewelry. She can definitely do and has done better. And Vidya is just plain blah period.

What is that? Sheetal Mafatlal with another feathery friend, fishes at the wrist, starfish at the bust and pompoms on the dress. Is she for real???? Manish should just stick to dressing women.

Rakshanda Khan (of Jassi fame) is wearing a baby doll dress over cropped pants and a belt. Incredible. Am speechless.

Sajid Khan with hot mama's Aditi Gowatrikar and Malaika Arora Khan. Unfortunately both women disappoint. This grey number does nothing for Aditi and the sweat stain, oh no. Malaika should seriously stop wearing over the knee dresses, they are starting to not look that great anymore. Also she is wearing a variation of the dog strap belt earlier seen on Rihanna and Sienna Miller (see one of my earliest posts). Just looks horrid with this dress.

HITS

Did Sophie Chaudhry copy Sonam's look ( see my previous post) I think she totally did. Anyway it looked great on Sonam, it looks good on Sophie.

So elegant and poised. Love Lara's dress, silver clutch with a rose and metallic shoes.

Trend Setters

These ladies for the most part are very well versed and extremely aware in the area of fashion and global trends. They are few of the trendiest ladies in Bollywood and have never played safe (which is so boring) and have always taken fashion risks.

Bipasha Basu has been a fav of mine. She does not always hit the bull's eye but that does not scare her from taking chances. She fashions herself after Rihanna in terms of hair and clothes (hopefully not in love). She has been spotted in a wide range of outfits from designer togs to Forever 21 wear. I love the color of her dress (another hot color this year), her slingback booties and belt. Very hip.

Lara Dutta is always very elegantly turned out. She is not a fanatical trend follower and veers on the edge of classic. But it always works and is never boring. Her floral top is another hot spring and summer trend.

Very classic in her dressing. Prefers black for formal events. She started off real strong but lost steam somewhere in between and made some horrible dress choices. Looking at this pic, I think she is back on track.

Currently ruling the roost. Sonam has clothes, bags and shoes to die for. I love her blue dress teamed with nude pump (so hot) and her python print Prada bag.

Slumdog sweeps the Oscars

Eight Oscar awards - JUST FANTASTIC. Here are the stars from last night.

The main stars first - they were just too cute on the red carpet and on the stage. Also they looked great - the girls in their pretty dresses and the boys in their tuxes, which they told Ryan Seacrest, were from Brook Brothers.

The man of the hour - A R Rehman (on the red carpet with his wife). He wore a suit with a black shirt and white tie - in contrast to all the other men in the cast and crew of Slumdog. Dude, he knew he was gonna stand out. His wife is dressed in a pretty Sabyasachi chudidar kurta.

See what I mean about the other men. Dev Patel was again in a Burberry tux and a bow tie. This time Anil Kapoor (man why is this guy so desperate to hog the camera) and Irfaan Khan followed suit.

I dunno how you feel but I am not crazy about Freida's outfit. Even though her blue John Galliano is supposedly saree-inspired, it did not do much for her. Furthermore, when she came on stage as a presenter, her hair looked all messed up. Disappointed.

With his two golden men. Rehman changed into a sherwani to perform on stage. It looked great. Congratulations.

Delhi 6 Dubai premier

The stars of Delhi -6 went to Dubai to attend the premier. During the day the met with the press and interviewed with a local Asian television show.

Here is a picture of Sonam from the press meet.

Very old school glamour here - flowy polka dotted dress with a wide belt cinching the waist, red lipstick and ofcourse the classic Chanel clutch. Very classy.

If I find a full length picture of Sonam from the premier, I will add that so you can see the entire outfit. I love the two toned strapless dress, the updo with ringlets but most of all love her uncut diamond and emerald choker. Really, 2 thumbs up for this one.

Fantastic Four

Four of the most glamorous women of Bollywood attended the FICCI Frames events and actually sat together and chatted (yes even friends turned foes Kareena and Priyanka).

Starting from left to right lets go over their outfits.

Even though I love white, I do not like Shilpa's saree, no, not one bit. Nor do I like her make up. Babe, you gotta tone down that blush. The saree is weird - plain but with those straggly things at the edge. Ugh. Only thing nice was the silver Ferragamo clutch that she was carrying.

I love Kareena's saree. Love the shade of green and the silver shade in the pleats, also the pink flowers in Parsi embroidery. Its gotta be a Manish Malhotra. I just wish Kareena had toned down the bronzer.

Interesting combo, dunno if I would have accessorized a goldish bronze colored dress with silver. Having said that, I love her Louboutin pumps and Leiber clutch.

Plain Preity. When all these other women are glammed up why is she wearing jeans and a blazer? Did she mistake this event for an IPL meeting? Inspite of her Louboutins, Preity disappoints.

Sonam - slips up.

As you know I am a huge fan of Sonam's dress sense. So you can understand how disappointed I was when I saw this.

Sonam wore this outfit to Delhi 6's New York premier. Let me start from the top, I do not like her hairdo. It is neither straight nor does it have that trendy messed up look - it is just blah. I do not like the fit of the kurta, it make her look stumpy and last but not the least what is it with those two toned jootis? Very sad.

What I do love is her jewelry. Love the choker and the earrings. Please Sonam, break this trend.

Max Stardust Awards 2009

So the Max Stardust Awards took place this past weekend. Here is my Hit or Miss list. Let me start with Hits this time.

HITS

Twinkle is looking better than she ever has. From the current lot of stars and star wives I think she has the best make up job and is one of the best dressed too. Absolutely love how she looks here, makeup, diamond and emerald earrings, Sita de Vesci clutch and snake skin pumps. I love the color and fit of her dress too, just am not too crazy about the flap on the shoulder.


I like Priyanka's updo and the two tone strapless gown but most of all absolutely crazily love her rose shaped jewel encrusted Leiber clutch. I loved it since the day I saw Shilpa Shetty carrying one (yeah she has one too)



Plain and simple, Vidya looks nice but I think she has been playing it too safe lately. Watch out Vidya, you are on your way to getting boring.

I like Sridevi's one-shouldered organza Gauri and Nainika gown. Very elegant and classy.

A big step up for Asin after all the disasters we have seen lately. Maybe there is hope for this one.



MISSES

I had to start with Kareena, usually I am her biggest advocate but this outfit is very disappointing. Do not like her hair, outfit or shoes.

No hope here. Kajol is a permanent fixture on the worst dressed list.

What is that???? I know Kangana likes to take fashion risks but this is not a risk - this is a disaster. Guess you cannot win 'em all.

Last but not the least, Madame Re. This is a definite change from her usual Kanjeevaram sarees but an all velvet saree?? What - is she carrying a personal sauna around?

And then there is Sonam

She is a regular chameleon this one. Keeps changing her look and totally nailing it every single time.






Honestly, I don't know if I would have chosen this Sabyasachi number for myself but it looks just great on Sonam. Teamed with those jhoomkas and kolhapuri - she is hit hit.

Pink Panther at Berlin Film Festival

What can one do about her? This chick just does not get it.

Hinduja's Reception

The Hinduja's just had a wedding reception for their daughter Ambika. Again the who's who of Mumbai society were there.

Today because it is Valentine's Day, I will skip the Hit and Miss segment and go first with the ladies who seemed to have dressed keeping in mind the weekend theme. Then, the rest shall follow.

I love Suzzanne Roshan's saree. Love the color and style, very elegant. But Hrithik, dude this green shirt is a faux pas. It does not look good on you and secondly you just wore it for the Screen awards (check my post on the Nokia Screen Awards). The star that you are, you really cannot afford to do this.

Looks like the entire Khan brigade is in Pink (Suzzanne's maiden last name is Khan, you know). Natasha Khan is also in a pink ombre saree, her saree looks dated. Don't like it one bit.

Zayed Khan's mom and wife are both dressed in pink. Love both shades of pink. I wouldn't wear Zarine's saree, but it looks good on her.

More Khans. Farah Khan is in gold. I like her saree and I like her jewelry but I do not like them together. The necklace is lost and does not stand out at all. Laila Khan's blue saree and Simone Khan's purple also look very dated. It is possible the girls don't wear sarees often so they raided their mom's closets.

I guess Sabina Khan and Manish Malhotra spend so much time designing clothes for stars that they do not have time to design anything for themselves. It shows.

It is Shantaram. Author Gregory David Roberts and his wife Princess Francoise Sturdza. If only he could get her to smile.........

And then there was Sridevi. Yet another ombre saree, this time in shades of green. Sridevi looks better now than she has ever before but the saree leaves a lot to be desired.

Farah Khan's Triplets First Birthday Party

Farah Khan had a star-studded first birthday party for triplets. I will start with the misses at this event first because the host herself spear-headed this one.

MISSES




I just don't see why Farah likes this top so much, I really don't. This is the third time she has been spotted wearing this and it looks just as bad as the other times. Just throw this one away Farah. You have done enough 'paisa vasool' with this one.

Farah's co-judge from Nach Baliye, Karisma Kapoor. She really needs to get out of her plain Jane jeans and black top routine. Besides her Gucci Hysteria clutch, she looks just boring.

What are they wearing? Did they attend a patchwork or craft workshop together? They being Farhan Akhtar's wife Adhuna (who is one of the top most hairstylists in Mumbai) and his sister Zoya ( who made her debut as director of the movie Luck by Chance). Sad very sad.

HITS

I am on the fence with this one but will include socialite Anu Dewan in the list of hits because her outfit is cute. I only wish she had added a pop of color or print to her outfit. It verges on the side of being drab.

Just like Farah Khan (the jewelery designer) Queenie Dhodhy loves her BCBG outfit (see my post on Farah Khan's Jewelry showing). This is the third time she has been spotted wearing this one, the only difference being, this time she has worn a cami underneath. I love this color on her and think she carries it off well.

I think Amrita Arora is appropriately dressed for a kiddie birthday party and love the color of her Balenciaga duffel. BUT Amrita, you really should stop wearing black inner wear under a white shirt. So not cool girl. Also tone down the blush sweetie.

It's hot mama, Malaika Arora Khan. Love the electric blue dress ( boy is this color IN or what), the sandals and the classic black Chanel pouchette. I do however this it is a bit much for a kiddie birthday party. But hey, to each his own.

La Pantera Rosa

Ash is photographed here promoting her movie Pink Panther 2 at the French Embassy Residence on Wednesday in Madrid, Spain.

Does her face not look a little strange to you? I am not sure what it is. The rumor is that she has been treating herself to Botox lately, I think she has just gained weight (blissfully married and all you know)

This woman should just get herself a good stylist, just like Freida has. God knows she can afford it. Atleast then we would not see her wearing such horrendous and ill fitting clothes that look like the street corner darzi has whipped them up.

Chamku Brigade

The party season is in full swing in Bollywood. You will see a lot of posts on Desi Diva bringing you the fashion hits and misses from all the major dos.

Lets start with Sanjay Dutt's first wedding anniversary party (it's his 3rd first anniversary you know). Maybe it was a theme party - dress in you chamku best or something like that. You really have to see the stuff people wore here. Sorry cannot bring you any hits here - its just chamku all the way.

Vidya, no. A similar chamku blue outfit looked sad on Ash and looks equally sad on you.

I don't think she is pregnant. But Ayesha sure has ballooned, what happened to that cute girl in "Dor" ( if I remember the name of the movie correctly). This saree is just bad, period.

The corset on Sheba ( a starlet from eons ago), along with the fit of those pants. Goodness!!!!

I really like the color and style of Sophie Chaudhry's oufit, just wish it was in that chamku satiny fabric. And girl, you need to get better inner wear, this one is not helping.

Malaika Khan is wearing the same French Connection outfit that Maria wore ( check my post) to Tussar Kapoor's party. Dunno, just don't care for the outfit and especially not the shoes.

The ombre dress is not bad but Ameesha's clutch and shoes both have the same big mirrors on them. Too matchy matchy for me.
